SKIN TYPES

It is important to have a personalized skincare plan that targets your skin type. Knowing the different types of skin and their specific characteristics, will allow you to put together Treatment plan that will improve and maintain the quality of your skin.  There are four types of skin- Oily, Dry, Combination and Normal skin, plus, four types of skin condition. Our skin type is determined by pore size, tone, texture and oil production.

Oily skin: any skin that has large pores, thick skin, shiny skin n oil oozing out. Oily skin doesn’t age fast, but has lots of disorder like Acne, Papules, comedomes or blocked pores, pigmentation etc. oily skin needs extra care to avoid bacteria proliferation as a result of the blocked pores. Is a problematic skin.
Oiliness can change, depending upon the time of year or weather. It can be worsened by:

  • Puberty or other hormonal imbalances
  • Stress
  • Antibiotics
  • Exposure to heat or too much Humidity

Dry skin: Small or almost invisible pores, low sebum production, flaky skin with patches, Skin age faster I.e. premature aging, thin skin and broken capillaries.  (Capillaries are thin blood vessels that bring oxygen and nutrients to tissues and remove waste products. Broken capillaries is when this tiny blood vessels become visible near the surface of the skin usually appears like blotches n streaks or red lines, commonly known as spider veins. Skin gets easily dehydrated. Dry skin can be worsened by:

  • Genetics
  • Aging or changes in hormones
  • Ingredients in cosmetic products or cleaning agents
  • Medications
  • Indoor heating
  • Weather such as wind, cold, sun, ultra violet radiation.

Normal skin: is a balance skin, not oily or dry. Hardly have issues, and often neglected which later lead to dry skin, especially around the eye, neck, and cheeks. Normal skin in adult is very rare, to identify it pore is medium size, moisture content is good, skin is neither thick or thin, free of blemishes and hyperpigmentation.  Product to use:

Combination skin: here the T zone is oily and dry on other part of the face or body. Very common skin type.  Pores are enlarged on the t zone, also high moisture content, while the cheek n other areas have smaller pores, and poor moisture contents and uneven pigmentation. Acne, Papules, comedomes, breakouts are found on t zone, while milia or broken capillaries appear on dry areas.

SKIN CONDITIONS

SKIN CONDITIONS: Is not skin type, rather skin issues that we have:

Sensitive skin: is a problematic skin. It experiences different skin reaction related to immune skin reaction. Prevalent but not limited to dry skin, combination or oily skin can be sensitive too. Skin Shows high coloring such as redness in a fair skin, and dark patch on dark skin, Skin feels warm on touch, Broken capillaries on the cheek, React mostly to skincare products. Rosacea, Eczema or Allergies can cause skin sensitivity. Can be Worsened by:

  • Bath soaps
  • Detergent
  • Eye Cosmetics

Dehydrated skin

Dehydrated skin Lack of moisture in the skin can affect any skin type, but common on dry & combination skin. Signs to notes are superficial flaking or fine lines. To treat dehydrated skin, u need to identify what causes it, as environment factor such as low humidity or air conditioned environment, medication can cause it.

Moist: Skin appears moist and damp due to over secretion of sweat. Caused mostly by hormonal imbalance.  This skin conditions needs to avoid spicy food, and skincare products with alcohol Can't be treated by an Esthetician.
